BBC News iPad App Hits 1 Million Downloads

Jul 19 2010

July 19th 2010 - In less that 15 weeks, the BBC News iPad App has been downloaded more that 1 million times from Apple’s iTunes Store.

Prior to the initial launch of the iPad on April 3rd, Mobile IQ had been working with the BBC to produce the application in time for new users to enjoy the best BBC news content, in an appropriate format on their new devices.

The app was an instant hit and is amongst the most popular news apps within the iTunes store. Since then, there has been a number of updates to the app, as we have responded to some great customer feedback, to refine the interface and make the application even more enjoyable to use.

What is remarkable is that BBC News App is still not available in the UK, its home market, which means internationally the ease of use of the app – combined with great BBC content – is driving adoption.

The BBC recently discussed the its mobile strategy at a conference held at Columbia University. More from the BBC mobile talk can be found here.

We are excited and proud to see a launch app that we built do so well. We have many more in the pipeline with some interesting brands and are looking forward to see how the iPad market develops over the next few months.
