Surprise! Here’s BBC News on the iPad
While we’ve been talking about the iPhone App development for the BBC, in the background, we’ve been working on developing an iPad Application too.
There’s a lot to navigate as a developer on Apple’s platform, and we weren’t able to talk too much about this until launch.

On Saturday as long lines of people formed outside Apple stores in major cities across America, we pushed out the BBC News App for the iPad.
We are really happy with the results. As a new medium to deliver rich media and text, we worked hard with the BBC to develop something that tried to leverage the best parts of the device in a friendly, intuitive, usable fashion.

I know I’m biased, but after a couple of days using the App and comparing it with other news apps (free or paid for), I think the UI is innovative and solid. (Much like the BBC content!).
With no official UK release date for the iPad yet, you need to be in the US to enjoy the App. And with a predominately US audience, we’re proud of the ranking of 5th in free news apps,12th in overall apps and a customer rating of 4 stars (correct the time of writing).
This is important for Mobile IQ too. The mobile market is fast moving and we’re excited to be developing innovative products in new areas.
Stay tuned for more.
