Trinity Mirror is to launch a network of 14 mobile sites for its brands, including the Daily Mirror and several regional titles, this autumn.
The publisher is keen to develop a portfolio of mobile sites in a bid to provide readers with news and information relevant to their local area.
National newspapers the Daily Mirror and Daily Record will be joined by regional titles including Coventry Evening Telegraph, Liverpool’s Daily Post and Echo and the Teesside Evening Gazette. The sites are being developed by mobile platform provider Mobile IQ.
Trinity Mirror aims to provide a mobile service that can be personalised to suit users’ needs.
Rick Gleave, head of interactive and mobile for Trinity Mirror, said he was keen for the sites to offer a useful experience. “We’re launching 14 sites that will give us a unique footprint in the UK. Our aim is to have a relationship with our print and online readers on their mobile phone.
“We want to offer information that’s relevant to our readers’ area, not just republish all the news we print. We’ll let people get the news and services they want to bring value into their lives,” Gleave added.
The print titles will also feature exclusive competitions and offers to drive traffic to the mobile sites.
The publisher has signed a deal with Nokia Interactive Advertising to sell ads across the network and is approaching advertisers with cross-platform sponsorship opportunities.
